Spicy Barbecue Burgers: Savory Sweet and Satisfying

This burger is all about the toppings. The hamburger patty is topped with barbecue sauce, cheddar cheese, bacon, sauté jalapeños and French's fried onions. The original recipe called for crispy onion rings, but I have never made them and had no desire to make them, so I decided to substitute them for French's fried onions and they worked great. You can use either option, what ever works for you.

Spicy Barbecue Burgers

Ingredients:

  • 4 slices turkey bacon
  • 2-4 jalapeños, sliced
  • 16 ounces ground turkey
  • black pepper, to taste
  • garlic powder, to taste
  • barbecue sauce
  • 4 slices cheddar cheese
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • French's fried onions or crispy onion strings

Directions:

  1. In a skillet cook the bacon until crispy. Remove the bacon and set aside.
  2. In the same skillet, with the bacon drippings, sauté the jalapeño slices for 1-2 minutes, or until they are slightly soft but still have some crunch to them.
  3. Season the ground turkey with desired amount of black pepper and garlic powder. Form the meat into 4 equal patties and cook in a skillet, flipping once.
  4. When the burgers are done, top with desired amount of barbecue sauce and 1 slice of cheese. Cover the skillet and allow the cheese to melt, about 1 minute.
  5. Place the burger patties on the bottom half of the a bun and top with 1 slice bacon, desired amount of jalapeño slices and fried onions.
Enjoy!!!
